On 11th February 1959, six of the territories within the Aden Protectorates merged
to
become the Federation
of Arab Emirates of the South .
The remaining territories became the Protectorate of South
Arabia.
On 5th October 1959, Lahej left the protectorate to join
the Federation
of Arab Emirates of the South .
In February 1960, 'Aqrabi and Lower 'Awlaqi left the
protectorate to join the Federation
of Arab Emirates of the South .
On 1st April 1962, Wahidi
Ba'l Haf & 'Azzan, Wahidi Bi'r 'Ali 'Amaqin and Wahidi
Habban left the protectorate to join the Federation
of Arab Emirates of the South , combined as the state of
Wahidi.
On 30th Match 1963, Hawshabi and Sha'ib left the
protectorate to join the Federation
of South Arabia .
In June 1964, Upper 'Awlaqi
(Sultanate) left the protectorate to join the Federation of South
Arabia .
In 1965, 'Alawi and Maflahi left the protectorate
to join the Federation
of South Arabia .
On 30th November 1967, the federation achieved full
independence from Britain, joining the Federation of South
Arabia to become South
Yemen .
Today, the area is part of
the Republic of Yemen.
