- On 14th February 1958, Iraq and Jordan merged to become the
Arab Union, also known as the Arab Federation of Iraq
- On 14th
July 1958, a coup overthrew the monarchy in Iraq.
- The new government announced the dissolution of the union
on 15th July 1958.
- The capital of the union was due to alternate between Amman
(Jordan) and Baghdad (Iraq) every six months, although due to
union's short life this never happened.
- Today, the union is divided between the
independent nations of Iraq and Jordan.
