- On 22nd February 1958, the nations of Egypt and Syria
merged to form the United Arab Republic.
- On 8th March 1958, the United Arab Republic joined North Yemen
to form the loose confederation of the United Arab States.
- Following a coup d'état, Syria left the United
Arab Republic on 28th September 1961.
- Despite being the only nation left in the union, Egypt
continued to be called United Arab Republic until 11th September 1971.
